Key Drop-off Introduction
  • Ohata Resource Canada accepts eligible CD and DVD players for free recycling at our Richmond, BC yard.
  • This category covers standalone entertainment players, rather than computer CD/DVD drives.
  • Keep the player intact and remove any discs you want to keep before drop-off.
  • Contact us about damaged equipment, combination units, or commercial quantities before visiting.

Drop-off Details and Conditions

Free Recycling for Unwanted CD and DVD Players

Older CD and DVD players often remain in cupboards or entertainment cabinets after a sound system or television setup has changed.

Ohata Resource Canada offers free recycling drop-off for eligible players at our Richmond yard. If you are clearing out home entertainment equipment, identify the different devices before bringing them together.

A photo of the player and its model label can help our team confirm the appropriate category.

Identifying Your Equipment

A standalone CD or DVD player has its own housing and playback controls. It connects to speakers, an amplifier, a television, or another entertainment device.

Blu-ray players and other disc-based equipment should be identified separately when contacting us rather than assumed to qualify under the same conditions.

Home Players and Computer Drives Are Different

A DVD player connected to a television is different from a CD/DVD drive installed in a computer.

Computer optical drives use a computer connection to read or write discs. They have a separate CD/DVD Drive buying category with their own acceptance conditions.

Do not assume that a complete home player qualifies for the computer-drive buying price. Keep the player assembled and let our team confirm its classification.

Preparing Your Player for Drop-Off

  • Remove CDs and DVDs that you want to keep.

  • Switch off the player and unplug it.

  • Disconnect it from televisions, amplifiers, and speakers.

  • Keep the housing and internal components together.

  • Pack the equipment so it remains secure during transport.

If a disc is stuck inside, do not force the tray or dismantle the player solely to retrieve it. Tell our team before drop-off, particularly if the disc contains personal information.

Damaged Players and Mixed Loads

Tell us if the player will not power on, the tray is jammed, or parts are missing. Contact us before bringing equipment with exposed components, substantial damage, corrosion, or contamination.

For several players or a mixed entertainment-system clear-out, send a group photo and approximate quantity. Identify speakers, receivers, remotes, and other devices separately so we can confirm their applicable categories.

Final acceptance and classification are confirmed after inspection.

Free Drop-Off and Scrap Purchasing

Qualifying players accepted through this service are received without a recycling fee and without payment.

If you also have computer optical drives or other scrap you would like to sell, keep those materials separate. Our team will evaluate them under the applicable buying conditions.

常见问题
1. Is CD and DVD player recycling free?
Eligible players are accepted free of charge through our recycling drop-off service at the Richmond yard.
2. Do you buy home CD and DVD players?
This page describes free recycling without payment. Computer CD/DVD drives have a separate buying category and should not be confused with complete home players.
3. Should I remove the discs?
Yes. Remove discs you want to keep before drop-off. If a disc is stuck, tell our team rather than forcing the mechanism.
4. Are loose CDs and DVDs included?
Loose discs are different from the players themselves. Contact us to confirm whether they can be received before including them in your load.
5. Can I bring a portable player or a DVD/VCR combination unit?
Send us a photo and model number first. Portable and combination equipment may need a different classification.
6. Is a computer DVD drive the same as a DVD player?
No. A computer optical drive is a computer component. A standalone DVD player is entertainment equipment with its own housing, controls, and connections.
7. Do I need to remove the circuit board?
No. Keep the player intact. There is no need to remove the optical mechanism, circuit boards, or internal wiring to prepare it for this category.
8. Why are players sorted separately from other electronics?
Separating players from computer drives, speakers, receivers, and loose accessories helps identify the equipment and apply the appropriate handling and recycling category.
9. How does recycling help keep resources in use?
Players contain materials such as metals and plastics, along with electronic components. Where suitable, reuse, parts recovery, and material recycling can give these resources another use.
