Drop-off Details and Conditions
Free TV Recycling at Our Richmond, BC Yard
Do you have an old television or electronic display that you no longer need?
Ohata Resource Canada accepts eligible TVs and displays for free recycling drop-off at our Richmond, BC yard.
There is no recycling fee for qualifying TVs. However, TVs are not currently purchased for scrap value, so the purchase value for this category is: AD $0.00
Both working and non-working TVs may qualify. We do not use a fixed screen-size limit. Instead, our team considers the type of equipment, its physical condition, overall size and weight, and whether it can be safely and practically handled at our facility.
If you have an unusually large, heavy, damaged, or contaminated TV, please contact our Richmond team before transporting it.

What Types of TVs and Displays Do We Accept?
Our free recycling program includes a variety of televisions and electronic displays.
TV / Display Type | Free Drop-Off | General Requirement |
|---|---|---|
CRT TVs | Yes | Subject to condition and safe handling |
Flat-Screen TVs | Yes | Working or non-working |
Plasma TVs | Yes | Working or non-working |
LCD TVs | Yes | Working or non-working |
LED TVs | Yes | Working or non-working |
Computer Monitors | Yes | CRT, LCD/LED and other eligible displays |
TVs Without a Remote | Yes | Remote is not required |
TVs Without a Stand | Yes | Must remain safe to handle |
Non-Working TVs | Yes | Subject to condition |
Severely Damaged or Contaminated TVs | Subject to inspection | May not be accepted |
The manufacturer or specific model generally does not determine whether a TV qualifies.
If you have an unusual type of display or are unsure whether your equipment belongs in this category, please contact us before visiting.
Is There a Size Limit for TVs?
We do not currently use a standard screen-size limit for TVs accepted through our free recycling program.
Instead, acceptance depends on whether the television can be safely and practically received, moved, stored, and processed at our Richmond facility.
This means that a large TV is not automatically rejected because of its screen size.
However, extremely large or heavy units may not be accepted if they cannot be safely or reasonably handled at our facility.
If you have. a particularly large or heavy television, please contact us before visiting. Providing a photo and approximate dimensions can help our team understand what you plan to bring.
What Condition Does a TV Need to Be In?
Your television does not need to work.
Both working and non-working TVs may be accepted for free recycling.
Examples of conditions that may generally be acceptable include:
Non-working electronics
Normal cosmetic wear
Scratches on the housing
Missing remote controls
Missing tabletop stands or feet
Minor exterior damage that does not create a handling hazard
The condition of each unit is checked when it arrives at our Richmond Yard.
Please Do Not Break or Dismantle Your TV
Please bring your TV substantially complete whenever possible.
You do not need to remove the circuit boards, wiring, display panel, metal frame, or other internal components before bringing a qualifying television to us.
Most importantly, please do not intentionally break the screen.
Broken glass and damaged display panels can create unnecessary handling hazards.
If a television has already been dismantled, its individual components may need to be inspected and classified separately rather than being received as a complete TV.
TVs Without a Remote or Stand
You do not need to bring the original remote control with your TV.
A television may also be accepted without its original stand or feet, provided that the unit remains safe for our team to handle.
If a TV was previously wall-mounted, please remove it from the wall before bringing it to our Richmond Yard.
Why Is the TV Purchase Value CAD $0.00?
TVs are handled differently from many of the electronic scrap categories that Ohata Resource Canada purchases.
Eligible TVs are currently accepted as a free recycling drop-off category, rather than as a paid scrap category.
That means:
Purchase Value: CAD $0.00
Recycling Fee: CAD $0.00
You do not pay us a recycling fee for a qualifying TV, and we do not pay a scrap purchase price for the TV.
If you bring other electronic scrap during the same visit, those materials may be inspected separately and may qualify for purchase under their applicable buying categories.
Bringing TVs With Other Electronic Scrap
You are welcome to bring other eligible electronic scrap during the same visit.
If you are bringing a TV together with materials that you would like to sell to us, please keep the free recycling items separate from your paid scrap items whenever possible.
This helps our team distinguish between:
Free recycling items
Electronic scrap purchased by weight
Items requiring separate inspection or classification
Our team will inspect the materials and confirm the applicable category when you arrive.
Final acceptance, classification, measured weight, and buying price for purchased items are determined after physical inspection.
