Drop-off Details and Conditions
Retiring a Home, Classroom, or Office Projector
A projector upgrade can leave several items to sort: the projector itself, a remote, cables, mounting hardware, and sometimes a separate screen.
Ohata Resource Canada welcomes working and non-working video projectors for free recycling at its Richmond yard. If you are unsure whether your equipment qualifies or how to prepare it, feel free to contact us before visiting. A photo and model number can help us answer your questions.
This page focuses on electronic projectors that display video or computer images. Slide projectors, film projectors, and other specialist equipment should be identified separately.
For other equipment from the same clear-out, browse our free recycling categories.

Projector Types and Equipment Guidance
If you would like help identifying your projector, the following details can help our team answer your questions.
Equipment | Details to provide |
|---|---|
Portable video projector | Brand, model, and condition |
Home cinema projector | Model and any separate accessories |
Classroom or meeting-room projector | Model, quantity, and whether it has been removed from its installation |
Short-throw or ultra-short-throw projector | Model and approximate dimensions |
Large venue or specialist projector | Photos, dimensions, weight, and quantity for advance review |
Projection screen or ceiling mount | Identify separately from the projector |
Slide or film projector | Request classification before assuming the same conditions apply |
These examples describe equipment types, rather than guaranteeing acceptance of every model. Large, unusual, or specialist units should be reviewed before transportation.
Separating the Projector From Its Installation
A ceiling-mounted projector may be attached to brackets, signal cables, and power connections. Arrange appropriate removal before bringing it to the yard.
Once disconnected, keep mounting hardware and external cables grouped separately. Identify any equipment that remains attached to a larger installation.
This page describes customer drop-off of equipment. Removal from ceilings, walls, or cabinets is not included in the service described here.
For a classroom or office replacement project, a short inventory of models and quantities can help our team review the planned load. Send it through our contact page.

Keep the Lens, Lamp, and Housing Intact
Switch off the projector, allow it to cool, and disconnect external power before packing.
Do not remove the lamp, lens assembly, circuit boards, or internal wiring solely to prepare the projector for recycling. Keep the unit complete and describe any missing or damaged parts.
Loose replacement lamps and broken lamp components should be identified separately. Acceptance of a complete projector does not automatically establish acceptance of loose lamps.
If the housing is broken or internal components are exposed, send photos before transport. There is no need to dismantle the projector to diagnose a fault.
Connected Features and Accessories
Some projectors support network connections, apps, or linked accounts. Where applicable, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to remove stored personal information before handover.
Check for memory cards, USB drives, or other removable storage you want to keep.
Free recycling does not automatically include data erasure or certified data destruction. Discuss any information-handling requirements before delivery.
Group accessories so they are easy to identify:
Remote controls.
External power adapters.
HDMI and other signal cables.
Ceiling brackets and mounting hardware.
Separate projection screens.
Spare lamps or detached components.
Confirm accessory acceptance separately, particularly for large screens or installation hardware.
Other Equipment From the Same Room
When clearing a meeting room, classroom, or home entertainment setup, check the conditions for each device:
Computers and loose electronic components may fall under separate electronic scrap buying categories.
Free recycling and scrap purchasing have different conditions. A projector’s internal components do not establish a purchasing price for the complete unit.
Plan Your Richmond Drop-Off
Eligible projectors accepted through this service are received without a recycling charge or payment to the customer.

Have several units or an unfamiliar model? Send photos of the equipment and model labels, an approximate quantity, and details of any damage before loading.
