Drop-off Details and Conditions
Free Recycling for Old Pagers
A workplace changes its communication system, but the old pagers remain: some in charging docks, others in drawers, and a few with missing clips or worn buttons.
Ohata Resource Canada accepts working and non-working paging equipment for free recycling. You do not need to reactivate a service, replace batteries, or assemble a complete set before retiring the equipment.
If you would like help identifying an unfamiliar unit, send a photo and model number through our contact page.

Recognizing Paging Equipment
Pagers notify the user through a sound, vibration, light, or displayed message. They differ from walkie-talkies, which are primarily used for voice communication between users.
Common paging equipment includes:
Equipment | Typical use |
|---|---|
Personal pagers or beepers | Receiving alerts, callback numbers, or text messages |
Staff pagers | Notifying employees that assistance is needed |
Restaurant guest pagers | Alerting customers when a table or order is ready |
Charging bases | Holding and charging compatible pager units |
Paging transmitters and control units | Sending calls or alerts to the associated pagers |
A device’s shape alone may not tell you its purpose. Public-address speakers, telephone systems, and two-way radios should be identified separately, especially when they form part of a larger installation.
One Pager or a Retired Set
You can recycle a single pager even if the original charger or the other units are missing.
For a complete set, keep the equipment organized:
Group similar pagers together.
Place matching charging bases with their units.
Keep external power adapters and cables together.
Identify separate transmitters or control equipment.
Note damaged batteries or contamination.
Missing belt clips, chargers, or individual pagers do not require replacement. Bring the equipment you have and leave its remaining internal components intact.
For a larger workplace batch or installed system, an approximate inventory helps us plan receiving. There is no need to diagnose every faulty unit.
Before Workplace Equipment Changes Hands
Confirm Ownership
A pager may belong to an employer, service provider, or equipment supplier. Confirm that you are authorized to recycle it and complete any required return arrangements first.
Recycling a device does not cancel a service agreement or close an account.
Check Messages and Labels
Depending on the model, a pager may retain messages, callback numbers, or identifying information.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to clear stored information where supported. Remove external labels containing personal or workplace information you do not want to pass on.
Non-working devices can still be recycled, but free recycling does not automatically include data erasure or certified destruction. Discuss any specific information-handling requirements before handover.
Look at Battery Condition
Switch the devices off before packing. Do not force open a housing or dismantle a pager to reach an internal battery.
A battery that no longer holds a charge is different from one that is swollen, leaking, or physically damaged. Contact our team before transporting equipment with damaged batteries or hazardous contamination.
More Than Pagers to Clear Out?
A workplace cupboard may also contain calculators, monitors, and other retired electronics. Check the relevant pages when preparing a mixed load:
Mobile phones and tablets remain separate equipment categories, even if they replaced the paging system. Review the buying conditions for smartphones and tablets.
Free paging-equipment recycling does not include payment. Other electronic scrap may qualify under our separate buying categories.
Bring Retired Paging Equipment to Richmond
Make room for the equipment you still use by bringing unwanted pagers and their matching accessories to our Richmond yard.

For questions about unfamiliar equipment, larger quantities, or special receiving arrangements, contact our team.
- 1. Are pagers and beepers the same kind of equipment?
- “Beeper” is a common name for a pager. Devices may provide a simple alert or display numbers and messages.
- 2. Can I recycle a pager that no longer works?
- Yes. Working and non-working pagers are welcome. You do not need to repair, charge, or reactivate them before recycling.
- 3. Do you accept restaurant guest pagers?
- Yes. Guest pagers and their matching charging equipment can be brought for recycling. Group the units and identify any separate transmitter or control base.
- 4. Do I need the complete set?
- No. Single pagers and incomplete sets can be recycled. There is no need to replace missing units or accessories.
- 5. Can I include charging bases and adapters?
- Yes. Bring matching charging bases, external power adapters, and cables with the pagers. Keep them organized by system where practical.
- 6. Does recycling cancel my paging subscription?
- No. Service cancellation and equipment-return obligations must be handled separately with your provider or organization.
- 7. Could an old pager still contain messages?
- Depending on the model, it may retain messages or identifying information. Clear these where possible before handover. Free recycling does not automatically include data erasure.
- 8. Is a walkie-talkie a pager?
- A walkie-talkie is primarily used for two-way voice communication. A pager primarily delivers an alert or message. Identify the device by its function rather than assuming they are the same equipment.
- 9. Can a Vancouver business bring a batch of retired pagers?
- Yes. For larger quantities, send the approximate number of devices and details of the associated bases or transmitters before arranging delivery to Richmond.
- 10. Where can I recycle pagers for free in Richmond, BC?
- At Ohata Resource Canada, 11220 Voyageur Way, Unit 7, Richmond. This is free recycling without payment to the customer. See our access page for directions.
