TV Recycling Drop-Off and related Scrap Prices as of 8:00 AM on October 25, 2026

Hello! I’m Tomona from Ohata Resource Canada’s Richmond yard.

It’s Thursday, October 8, 2026, and I have some news for anyone making space at home or clearing out an office: we’ve started accepting eligible electronics for free drop-off at our Richmond yard, including TVs and computer monitors.

Flat-screen TV
Making space at home or in the office? Our Richmond yard now accepts eligible TVs, monitors and other electronics for free drop-off.

Perhaps you have an old television in a spare room, a monitor under your desk, or a box of electronics you’ve been meaning to sort. This guide explains what you can bring, how free drop-off differs from selling e-scrap, and how to prepare for your visit.

What Free Electronics Drop-Off Means

For an accepted free-drop-off item, you do not pay a recycling fee, and we do not pay you a purchase price. It is a way to bring eligible unwanted electronics to our yard without a disposal charge.

Ohata also purchases qualifying electronic scrap. You can explore those categories on our Canadian scrap price list.

If you have a mixture of items, you don’t need to work everything out yourself. Tell us what you have and which items you would like assessed for purchase. Keeping those groups separate gives our team a clearer starting point.

TVs and Computer Monitors

Our TV recycling and free-drop-off page covers eligible CRT televisions, plasma TVs, LCD/LED TVs, flat-screen TVs and computer monitors.

Working and non-working TVs may qualify. A missing remote or stand does not automatically rule out a television, provided it remains safe to handle.

There is no fixed screen-size limit, but very large or heavy units require advance discussion. Send a photo and approximate dimensions before transporting one. Severely damaged or contaminated displays may not be accepted.

Please bring the unit substantially complete. There is no need to open the housing or remove internal boards to prepare a TV for free drop-off. Tell us beforehand if the screen is already broken.

TV and display drop-offs require a signature. Please speak with a team member when you arrive so we can review the equipment and complete the drop-off process.

Other Electronics You Can Bring

Our free-drop-off service also includes eligible items from the groups below. These are selected examples from our acceptance list; the type and condition of each item still matter.

Item group

Examples

Home audio

Speakers, stereos, receivers, microphones, electronic keyboards and accessories

Video and entertainment

CD/DVD players, VCR and BETA players, video projectors, video game systems and accessories

Cameras and navigation

Cameras, camcorders, accessories and GPS units

Small office electronics

Calculators, adding machines, answering machines, paging equipment, PDAs, typewriters and word processors

Chargers and accessories

AC adapters, remote controls, wires and connectors

Household electronics

Microwaves, electric toothbrushes and home alarm systems

Communications equipment

Radios, CB radios, two-way radios, walkie-talkies, satellite receivers and dishes

Networking and TV equipment

Routers, switches, modems, and cable or satellite converter equipment

Other Electronics You Can Bring
Our free-drop-off service covers more than TVs, including eligible monitors, microwaves and other electronics. Ask our Richmond team if you’re unsure about an item.

Have something unusual or older? Vintage electronics are also on our acceptance list. A photo of the whole item and its model label can help us understand what you plan to bring.

This list does not mean every appliance or electrical item is accepted. If yours is not listed, ask our Richmond team before loading it into your vehicle.

Some Electronics May Qualify for Purchase

You may notice that some items above also appear on our buying list. For example, we have purchasing information for modems and routers and cable/DVR boxes without hard drives.

Modem and router — Some Electronics May Qualify for Purchase
Some modems and routers may qualify for purchase. Our team reviews their completeness and condition before confirming the applicable buying category.
Cable/DVR boxes — Some Electronics May Qualify for Purchase
Cable and DVR boxes may also qualify for purchase. Let us know whether the hard drive or other components have been removed so we can evaluate them correctly.

The broad item name alone does not settle whether your equipment qualifies for payment. Its construction, remaining components and condition need to be reviewed against the applicable buying requirements.

If you would like a purchase evaluation, tell us before completing the drop-off. Send photos if you’re unsure which service applies.

A household clear-out might also include laptops, loose circuit boards or other material with its own buying category. Keep those items together and review the current purchasing categories before visiting. You do not need to dismantle complete equipment simply to make an inquiry.

Getting Ready for Your Visit

Start with a quick look through your items. Group similar equipment together and make a short note of anything missing, broken or unusually heavy.

For an inquiry, useful details include:

  • A clear photo of the whole item

  • A model label, if available

  • The approximate number of items

  • Dimensions for large displays

  • Any known damage or missing parts

Keep smaller electronics in manageable containers and protect equipment from rain during transport. For heavy items, discuss receiving arrangements with us before setting off.

If a device contains personal or business information, back up anything you need and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for removing accounts or resetting the device before handing it over.

You don’t need a detailed inventory for every ordinary visit. A few clear photos and a short description are often enough to start the conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I recycle an old TV for free in Richmond?

Yes. Eligible TVs are accepted at our Richmond yard without a recycling fee. See the TV drop-off conditions before visiting.

2. Do you pay for TVs?

No. This is a free-drop-off service. Other qualifying e-scrap can be assessed separately for purchase.

3. Can I bring a computer monitor?

Yes. Eligible computer monitors are included. A signature is required for display drop-offs.

4. Do I need an appointment?

Regular drop-offs generally do not require an appointment. Please contact us first about a large load, multiple bulky items or equipment that needs special handling.

5. Can I bring electronics from an office?

Please send photos and approximate quantities in advance so we can discuss the equipment and receiving arrangements. Avoid assuming every item in an office clear-out belongs in the same category.

6. Is a CD/DVD player the same as a computer CD/DVD drive?

No. A home entertainment player and a computer optical drive are different items. Our price list includes a separate CD/DVD Drive category. Send a photo if you’re unsure which you have.

7. Can I bring items to sell during the same visit?

Yes. Keep them separate from your free-drop-off items and tell the team you would like a purchase evaluation.

8. What if I cannot find my item online?

Contact us with a photo. We’re continuing to add information about accepted items, and the team can help you check before travelling.

Ready to Make Some Space?

Have an old monitor or a few electronics you’ve been meaning to clear out? We’re happy to help you figure out what to bring.

Start with our TV recycling page or browse the scrap price list to see which items may qualify for purchase. If you’re unsure, send our Richmond team a message or contact us by phone or WhatsApp at +1 (236) 888-1086. A few photos and a short description are a great starting point.

Acceptance depends on the item and its condition. For material offered for sale, final acceptance, classification, measured weight and buying price are confirmed after physical inspection.

Thank you for supporting our Richmond yard! We hope your autumn clear-out leaves you with a little more space—and a little more time to enjoy the season.
