Good morning! I’m Han Han. Today is Tuesday, August 25, 2026, and I’d like to chat with you about Vancouver scrap market trends and a question I hear quite often: which old electronics are actually rich in copper?

If that sounds a little technical, don’t worry. You do not need to be a metals expert or know the name of every circuit-board component. We’ll keep it simple and focus on the details that can help you sort and prepare your electronic scrap.

What Is Happening in the Copper Market?

Copper has had a busy year, but you do not need to follow the metal market every morning to understand the general trend.

Australia’s June 2026 Resources and Energy Quarterly says copper prices reached a record high in January, later eased, and remained elevated amid mine disruptions and other supply risks. The report expects demand to slow during the second half of 2026 before becoming stronger again from 2027 as clean-energy systems, data centres, and electrical infrastructure use more copper.

The International Energy Agency’s 2026 outlook also expects copper to record the largest volume growth among the minerals it tracks through 2040. The World Bank’s April 2026 outlook points to demand from electrification, data centres, and transportation.

What does that mean for someone with old electronics in Vancouver? A stronger copper market can make copper-bearing scrap more attractive to recyclers, but it does not make every green circuit board equally valuable.

A buyer still needs to look at the type of item, its grade, its condition, its weight, and the metals or components that may be recovered. Handling, transportation, sorting, and processing costs also affect the final evaluation.

Where Is Copper Found Inside Electronics?

Copper carries electricity very efficiently. Sometimes you can see it as reddish wire, but much of the copper inside electronics is hidden in components or between layers of a circuit board.
