Hello! I’m Tomona from Ohata Resource Canada’s Richmond yard.
It’s Sunday, October 25, 2026. Richmond started the morning with light rain and temperatures around 8°C. Rainy days have become a familiar part of autumn in Metro Vancouver, so please keep your electronics covered and dry if you’re preparing them for transport.
Halloween is almost here too! If you’re looking for a local celebration, Central Spark is coming to Burnaby’s Central Park on Friday, October 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. This free, family-friendly event is expected to feature live entertainment, artistic pumpkin carving, a drone light display and fireworks.
We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Halloween week!
Here at the Richmond yard, we’ve recently published more information about electronics that may be dropped off for recycling free of charge. Perhaps you have an old microwave in the kitchen, a monitor under your desk or a remote control sitting in a drawer. Let’s look at what free drop-off means, what we currently accept and how to prepare for your visit.

What Does Free Electronics Drop Off Mean?
For an accepted free-drop-off item, you do not pay us a recycling fee, and we do not pay you a purchase price.
This is different from selling electronic scrap. Our purchasing service covers qualifying circuit boards, computer components and other materials listed in our buying categories. The free-drop-off service is for eligible unwanted electronics that you would like us to receive for recycling without a disposal charge.
If you have both types of material, that’s completely fine. You can bring free-drop-off electronics and e-scrap for purchase during the same visit. We simply ask that you keep the two groups separate and tell our team which items you would like evaluated for payment.
You can check the latest published options under our Drop Off for Free category. We’re gradually adding detailed pages for the electronics included in our free-drop-off service. The categories currently visible online do not yet represent our full acceptance list. If your item is not listed, it does not necessarily mean we cannot accept it, so please contact our Richmond team if you’re unsure.
What Electronics Can You Drop-Off for Free?
Our current acceptance list covers more than televisions and computer monitors. Eligible items may include:
Calculators and adding machines
CD and DVD players
Computer monitors, including CRT and LCD/LED monitors
Microwaves
Radios, including CB radios, two-way radios and walkie-talkies
Remote controls
Electronic and sound keyboards
Speakers
Stereos and accessories
TVs, including CRT, plasma and flat-screen televisions
Typewriters and word processors
Video game systems and accessories
Video projectors
Vintage electronics

This is an overview of our acceptance list, rather than automatic approval for every device. The item’s type, condition, completeness and handling requirements still matter.
If you cannot find your item in our online free-drop-off category, contact our Richmond team before loading it into your vehicle. A photo of the complete item and its manufacturer or model label is usually enough to begin the conversation.
TVs
Eligible televisions may be accepted for free recycling. TVs have their own category and are managed separately from computer monitors.
The category covers several common types of television, including CRT televisions, plasma TVs and flat-screen televisions.
Please bring your TV substantially complete. There is no need to open the housing or remove its internal circuit boards. Let us know in advance if the screen is broken or if the unit is unusually large, heavy or difficult to handle.
A signature is required when dropping off a TV, so please speak with a team member when you arrive.

Computer Monitors
Eligible standalone computer monitors may also be accepted through our free-drop-off service. This includes older CRT monitors and flat-panel LCD/LED monitors.
Computer monitors and televisions can look similar, but they are listed separately on our website. If you’re unsure what type of display you have, a photo of the front, back and model label can help us review it.
Keep the monitor assembled and contact us before bringing a badly damaged, broken or unusually heavy unit.
A signature is also required for computer monitor drop-offs.
Microwaves and Other Household Electronics
Eligible microwave ovens, water coolers and water heaters may be accepted through our free-drop-off service.
There is no need to dismantle a microwave before asking us about it. Keep the housing and major components together, and contact us first if the unit is leaking, contaminated, unusually heavy or badly damaged.
All fluids must be removed from water coolers and water heaters before transportation.

This service does not automatically cover every household appliance. If an appliance is not included in the acceptance list, please send us a photo before bringing it to the Richmond yard.
Audio and Home Entertainment Equipment
Our acceptance list includes several types of home audio and entertainment equipment, such as CD and DVD players, VCR and BETA players, radios, receivers, speakers, stereos, electronic keyboards, video game systems, video projectors and satellite equipment.
Keep the original enclosure and major components together. Remove any discs, tapes or other personal items that you would like to keep before completing the drop-off.
A standalone home CD or DVD player is different from an internal computer optical drive. Computer CD/DVD drives may appear in our purchasing categories. If you’re unsure which type you have, send us a photo rather than opening or dismantling it.

Smaller Office and Personal Electronics
Calculators, adding machines, GPS units, paging equipment, remote controls, typewriters and word processors are among the smaller electronics included in our acceptance list.
Place small items together in a bag or manageable container so they are not lost during transportation. Leave model labels attached wherever possible because they can help our team identify unfamiliar equipment.
If a device has a swollen, leaking or visibly damaged battery, avoid unnecessary handling and contact us before bringing it to the yard.

Vintage and Unusual Electronics
Vintage electronics are also included in our acceptance list, but “vintage electronics” is a broad description. Age alone does not confirm that an item can be accepted.
Please send photographs of the complete equipment, its connections and any visible model information. Avoid opening or dismantling unfamiliar vintage electronics simply to prepare them for an inquiry.
If an item is unusually large, fragile or heavy, tell us before your visit so we can discuss receiving arrangements.
Can You Bring E-Scrap to Sell at the Same Time?
Yes. If you also have circuit boards, CPUs, RAM, laptops, computer components or other qualifying electronic scrap, you can ask our team to evaluate those materials for purchase.
Keep material offered for sale separate from your free-drop-off electronics. For example, place loose circuit boards or computer memory in their own containers rather than putting them inside an old appliance or mixing them with unwanted household electronics.
You can browse our current Canadian e-scrap buying categories before visiting. You do not need to determine every final grade yourself. Clear photographs, approximate quantities and information about missing or damaged parts give our team a useful starting point.
Final acceptance, classification, measured weight and buying price are confirmed after physical inspection.
Preparing for a Rainy-Day Visit
With frequent autumn rain around Metro Vancouver, a little extra preparation helps protect electronics during transportation.
Use covered containers or a dry vehicle area wherever possible. Avoid leaving circuit boards, computers or smaller electronics exposed in an open truck bed. Water can cover labels, cause additional corrosion and make equipment more difficult to inspect and handle.
Before visiting:
Keep free-drop-off items separate from material offered for purchase.
Leave equipment substantially complete unless instructed otherwise.
Remove discs, tapes and personal items you want to keep.
Back up or remove personal data where applicable.
Tell us about broken screens, missing parts or damaged batteries.
Take photos before loading unusually large or heavy equipment.
Contact us before bringing a commercial or palletized load.
You don’t need to prepare a complicated inventory for an ordinary visit. A few photos, an approximate item count and a short description are often enough to help us understand what you have.
