CPU D Grade is an entry-level recoverable category in the Ohata CPU Scrap Classification System. It generally covers low-yield processors whose construction contains less gold and fewer precious-metal-bearing components than higher CPU grades. All processors that satisfy the Ohata D Grade inspection standard are purchased at the applicable D Grade price. A processor does not receive a higher price simply because it is newer, faster, or originally expensive.

Inspectors first examine the CPU’s package material, contact structure, pin or land density, gold-plated areas, heat-spreader design, size, and overall completeness. D Grade CPUs normally show a lower recoverable precious-metal concentration than C, B, A, S, SS, or SSS Grade material.
Common D Grade indicators include:
Predominantly organic rather than high-value ceramic construction.
Flat contact pads or relatively low-yield pin structures.
Limited visible gold plating and low expected internal gold content.
A large proportion of base metals compared with precious metals.
Complete CPU construction but comparatively low refining value.
The CPU should remain identifiable and substantially complete.
