Good morning! I’m Han Han, and today is August 18, 2026. I hope your Tuesday is off to a good start. Yesterday, I visited a Metro Vancouver business to purchase a mixed load of circuit boards and retired IT equipment.

Richmond is starting the day cloudy at around 20°C (68°F). Today’s Richmond forecast calls for intervals of clouds and sunshine, with a high near 23°C (73°F) and a low around 15°C (59°F)—pleasant weather for sorting material, loading containers, or visiting the yard.

A Local Recycling Note for This Week

Recycling quality is a timely topic in Richmond. The City recently asked residents to sort more carefully because contamination had risen above Recycle BC’s accepted threshold. Circuit boards differ from curbside packaging, but clean separation makes both recycling streams more efficient.

If you are looking for something local to do today, the Kwantlen Farmers’ Market is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Richmond Public Library’s Brighouse Branch. Purchase Case: Yesterday’s Mixed Circuit-Board Pickup

To respect the customer’s privacy, I won’t share the company’s name. What I can share is what I saw: several black plastic containers holding loose circuit boards, metal-cased IT equipment, and other retired electronic devices, plus a large bulk bag filled with server motherboards.

The first photo shows desktop motherboards and other computer boards mixed in one container. Nearby containers hold complete metal-cased equipment. These items belong to the same pickup, but they should not all be evaluated as loose circuit-board scrap.

The second photo shows a large woven bag of server motherboards, including boards with multiple processor sockets and rows of memory slots. The containers below hold complete hard drives. I kept them separate because we inspect and evaluate them differently from loose HDD controller boards.

I separated the material into loose computer boards, server motherboards, complete hard drives, and equipment with metal housings. I also checked for corrosion, cut sections, missing components, and attachments that could affect identification.

I kept the main categories separate for transport to our Richmond yard. This prevents complete equipment or hard drives from being mixed into a circuit-board category.

Practical Tips Before You Sell Circuit Boards

Sort by original equipment type whenever possible. Keep server boards, desktop motherboards, network boards, hard-drive controller boards, and appliance boards in separate boxes. Put uncertain items in an “unknown” group rather than guessing.

Keep boards dry and handle them carefully. Water damage, heavy corrosion, burnt areas, deep cuts, and deliberately removed chips may reduce the grade or make a board unacceptable. Do not mix batteries, leaking items, liquids, or unrelated garbage into a circuit-board load.

Avoid breaking boards to fit a smaller container; a complete board is easier to identify than fragments. You can remove loose external steel or plastic housings, but ask first if you are uncertain because some assemblies belong in a different purchasing category.

Before a company pickup, send photos and estimated quantities. Mention loading restrictions, pallet sizes, and whether a forklift or loading dock is available.

Finally, remember that posted prices can change with the board category, condition, recoverable materials, and market conditions. A clean, accurately sorted load is easier to evaluate, but a photo estimate is not the same as a final inspection.
